Becoming a Born Again Christian means entering into a personal, spiritual relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ—experiencing a new spiritual birth that reconnects us with God and gives us eternal life. (Ephesian 2:8-9)
1. Why We Are Disconnected from God
The Disconnection: Sin
We are all born into sin, separated from God because of the fall of humanity.
• Romans 3:23 (KJV)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
• Isaiah 59:2 (KJV)
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
The Consequence: Death (Spiritual and Eternal)
• Romans 6:23 (KJV)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Understanding the penalty of sin and the eternal consequences without Christ is central to realizing why we need salvation and a Savior. Here’s a continuation and expansion of the message:
The Penalty of Sin Without Christ
Because of sin, every soul is separated from God—not just in this life, but for eternity—unless they receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Reality of Eternal Separation
(The word “death” here refers to spiritual death—eternal separation from God.)
• Revelation 20:15 (KJV)
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
• 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9 (KJV)
“In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.”
Without Christ, the Soul Is Lost Forever
• Mark 8:36 (KJV)
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
• John 3:18 (KJV)
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already…”
Without Christ, the soul is already under judgment and will face eternal separation from the presence of God, unless they repent and believe in Jesus.
But God Made a Way to Escape This Fate
• John 14:6 (KJV)
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
• Acts 4:12 (KJV)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
The Gospel: God’s Rescue Plan from Eternal Death
Jesus took our place—He bore the wrath and penalty we deserved so we could be saved and restored to God.
• Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities… and with his stripes we are healed.”
• 1 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God…”
2. God’s Love & The Way Back to Wholeness
Despite our sin, God made a way for us to be restored to Him—through His Son, Jesus Christ.
• John 3:16 (KJV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
• Romans 5:8 (KJV)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
3. What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?
To be “born again” means to have a spiritual rebirth—a transformation by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus.
• John 3:3 (KJV)
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
• 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
4. How to Be Born Again
Step 1: Acknowledge You’re a Sinner
• 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Step 2: Believe in Jesus Christ
• Believe He died for your sins and rose again.
• Acts 16:31 (KJV)
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”
Step 3: Repent (Turn from Sin)
• Acts 3:19 (KJV)
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…”
Step 4: Receive Jesus by Faith
• Invite Him into your heart and life as Lord and Savior.
• Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
5. The Result: Reconnected & Made Whole in Christ
• Colossians 2:10 (KJV)
“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.”
• John 1:12 (KJV)
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
How to Respond:
1. Acknowledge your sin.
2. Repent (changed of mind) and turn from it.
3. Believe Jesus died and rose for you.
4. Receive Him as your Lord and Savior.
